Employee Relations Director Joe McCabe

Joe McCabe is the current Director of the Employee Relations Division at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and is a current member of the Executive Command Staff. He oversees and directs multiple sections including Human Resources, Payroll, Procurement, Extra Duty Details and the Administrative Call Center and has been with the agency since 2004.
Prior to joining the LCSO, McCabe worked in the private sector at Sunrise Communities, a national not-for-profit company providing residential, rehabilitative and community-based services to the developmentally disabled. During his 11 years with Sunrise, he served as the Staff Development and Training Director and Human Resources Officer, where his passion for human resources, leadership and public administration was kindled and developed.
McCabe graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Florida State University and is certified with the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) as a SHRM-CP. He is an active member of SHRM, the American Payroll Association (APA) and the Florida Government Finance Officers Association (FGFOA). He is an annual participant and volunteer for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and routinely volunteers and supports the Florida Disabled Outdoors Association.
On a personal note, Joe is originally from Daytona Beach, Florida and came to Tallahassee in 1987 to attend FSU. He is married to Robin and has 2 children, Savanna 17 and Lucas 7. He is an avid competitive tennis player and is a strong advocate for autism awareness and education.
