Public Information Officer Shade McMillian

Deputy Shade McMillian, a native of Marianna, Florida, graduated Marianna High School in 1996.  He attended Chipola College on scholarship where he received his Associates in Arts degree, then onto Florida State University where he studied Political Science.  Deputy McMillian obtained his State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification after completing the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy in 2005.

Deputy McMillian became a member of the Leon County Sheriff's Office as a reserve deputy in 2005.  In 2007, Deputy McMillian accepted a full-time position with the agency as a Uniform Patrol Deputy where he attained Field Training Officer status.  In 2011, he transferred to the School Resource Unit as a School Resource Deputy.  He patrolled the campuses of Fairview Middle School and Deerlake Middle School from 2011 until 2015, respectively. 

In 2015, Deputy McMillian entered the Criminal Investigations Division as a Property Crimes Detective.  During his tenure in investigations, Detective McMillian served in the Financial Crimes Unit, Sex Offender Unit, Special Victims Unit, and Violent Crimes Unit until he was named the Public Information Officer in 2020. 

Deputy McMillian is an active member of the Florida Gang Investigators Association where he is currently serving his fifth term as the North Central Florida Regional Director on the Board of Directors.

Deputy McMillian has been married to his wife, Dana, for twelve wonderful years.  They have one eight-year-old daughter, Abigail Shade, an avid soccer player and Girl Scout.  He actively volunteers his time to several civic clubs and humanitarian efforts such as the American Cancer Society, Special Olympics of Florida, and The American Red Cross.
